“I can do all things…”, this have always been my life motto. As far as I can remember, I totally believed that there wasn’t anything I could not have done, or could not have accomplished. Growing up in my home, motivating myself was important and it was a task that I have had, in order to be successful.
Hello! My name is Leston Stanislaus Paul and I am a designer. I am also a young artist. I was born and I live on the beautiful, multicultural and vibrant twin island, Trinidad and Tobago. I love traveling mentally and physically, and when I travel, I enjoy every art form I can possibly intake at that moment. In my spare moments I enjoy looking at old movies such as “How to meet a Millionaire” with Marilyn Monroe, and my all time favourite, “The Sounds of Music” with Julie Andrews. I do enjoy the modern day films, because to me I see beyond just the action of the movie and rather the story line; in all aspects of designs and arts, I have allowed myself to see beyond just what i can see with my naked eyes. I enjoy listening music and the lyrics to that music. More times than others I listen to music when I am sad, need inspiration or when I am driving. Whenever I physically travel, theatre shows are always at the top of my list for any activity; London and Toronto are my two preferred getaway destinations. Mamma Mia and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, are my two top choices of musicals. I have seen both shows many times and almost every visit to London. I respect and enjoy every art form, from performance art to visual art and to culinary art.
As a child I loved art and designs. I spent many hours as I can remember each day drawing my fantasies of mermaids and fairytales. Choosing a profession of becoming a designer or an artist in my home was discouraged! I was cultured to believe that the arts doesn’t pay the bill! However being a doctor to help sick people was encouraged as being my professional career. While mentally I prepared to take up my rightful position as a science student for medicine, my talent of being a designer continued to expound but to greater heights.
Fifteen years later, I have started a Bachelors Degree in Computer Graphic Designs. I have designed master pieces, painted many interesting paintings, photograph and been photographed locally and internationally as a model. I won the title of Mister India Trinidad and Tobago. Represented my beloved twin island, Trinidad and Tobago as Mister Earth. Performed in theatre productions both locally and regionally (Caribbean). I have also been involve in film for local movies and short films, some of which have been aired in other countries.
I love The field of study which I have chosen. Designs and Arts, in my opinion is so similar, but yet different. Each of them work closely together. Designs is meant to address problems and solve them. Design is solving the needs of people. It is the process of the before, during and after of the creation. The function and usefulness of the artistic quality. On the other hand, Art is an aesthetic appealing/ intellectual intent that society deems culturally important. Art satisfies the wants of humans and its purpose may vary depending on the outlet for personal expressions, to setting moods/ emotions or sometimes to excite the eye of the viewers.

Like many designers and Artists, there is always a story behind most art work or creation. Every piece i have created, there is a story behind it. This did not occur because it is a tradition of creating. However my creations come based on the fact that I am strongly influenced from my many theatre experiences and those that I have worked with and under in the performing arts field. I am also sometimes influenced by the music which i sometimes watch/ listens (this can be any genre of music but hand selected of my choice!). Unlike some of my colleagues, i do not have a favourite anything (artist or designer). I appreciate the work and creation of many artist and designers, locally, regionally and internationally. Some of those artist and designers have inspired me with their work.
Paintings; These are a few of my paintings that i have painted over the last two months.
Fifteen years ago I thought that to date i would have been a doctor, but i believed the universe had a different and better plan for me. My journey in the arts has only now began and i am excited of what is to come. I am grateful of the experiences and what i have accomplished thus far. I am in my third year for the Bachelors of Arts in computer Graphic Designs and i constantly practices my talents. the last two months i have finished off seven different sizes of acrylic on canvas paintings. I have started two new paintings both of which will be acrylic on canvas, one of which will be going to Toronto, and the other painting is a depiction of the LGBT relationship! A few weeks ago I was asked to be apart of two new and different photo shoots abroad. My presence will be a reality and I am elated as per usual with any photo shoot I am involved. I have started within the last year a script for theatre performance. This script was approved by my mentor from OXFORD University about the diverse culture of Trinidad and Tobago, our many perceived attitudes and the topics we refuse to speak about! I ams till to add body to that script! That will be done very soon. So look out for great and bigger things from me in the near future.
